“Frame by Frame” A Filmmaking Residency
Leland Faulkner’s filmmaking residency gives students hands-on experience in all aspects of film production, from script development and cinematography to acting, directing, and post-production. Students learn practical filmmaking techniques including camera operation, frame rates, dolly shots, slating, script supervision, B-roll, and editing concepts while collaboratively producing an original short film. The finished film can be live action, or animation!
The residency emphasizes teamwork, storytelling, creative problem-solving, and real-world production practices. Students also explore industry roles both on camera and behind the scenes, gaining experience with professional film vocabulary, production planning, and visual storytelling techniques.
The film project can include collaboration with local organizations and incorporate on-location filming and PSA development opportunities, giving students an authentic production experience.

Residency Workshops: $175-275
Film Editing/Post Production Fee based on project scope.
Planning fee based upon scope of residency.
Travel Fee: $150/day
Processing Fee of $45 added to all contracts
Pricing may vary for weekends/out-of-school time
Provisions:
- A reserved parking space
- A standard outlet for electrical power
- Water for the artist
- Open space for production, and to move around
- If doing an animated film, the materials need to be in a place where they won’t be touched
Arrival time before first workshops or program date: 30 minutes
Strike time: 30 minutes
Time needed between workshops: 30 minutes
Accommodations: Travels from Maine, late start times or overnight accommodations may be necessary.
Please send a liaison from the school to greet the artist and guide them to the workshop space.
A teacher or school representative in the room to support artist, model being an active participant, and address student needs.
Please introduce the artist(s) as an Arts for Learning Massachusetts teaching artist.
