Music Teaching Artists for Toddlers
Part-Time Position
We are seeking experienced music teaching artists to join our toddler music residency program, Busy Beats. Busy Beats is a residency program that enriches the educational journeys of young children by infusing music, with a special emphasis on supporting early language and social-emotional development. Our primary mission is to provide valuable opportunities for economically disadvantaged families, aiming to bridge the achievement gaps often faced by children with diverse challenges and limited proficiency in English.
Locations: Jamaica Plain (Jackson Square), Roxbury Crossing, Cambridge (Central Square)
Job Responsibilities include:
• Deliver music sessions on weekday mornings between 9:30-12:00 for 28 weeks. Note: The specific day and number of sessions per week are flexible, depending on site and teaching artist's availability.
• Prepare weekly lesson plans that are engaging and promote developmental and social-emotional learning goals.
• Participate in collaborative planning/debriefing/evaluation meetings with classroom teachers and AFLMA Staff
• Submit evaluation/reflection documents as requested
• Work with AFLMA Staff to ensure a comprehensive classroom experience for participating sites.
Teaching artists are supported in adapting and/or using teaching materials to fit their teaching style, strengths, and interests while supporting the program's goals.
Pay Rate:
• $105/hr. Three, 15-20 minute sessions per hour, with 5 minute transition between sessions.
• $50/planning meeting
• Travel: Dependent on distance. Parking available at each site. All sites available via MBTA trains.

Music Teacher/Teaching Artist, Pre-K (Part-Time)
Expanding Horizons Through Music (EHTM)
Expanding Horizons Through Music (EHTM) Program Description:
The EHTM residency program is designed to integrate music with the learning of early literacy and social-emotional skills to assist in reducing the achievement gaps often experienced by PreK-K children (2.9-5 years old) from socio-economically disadvantaged families with a range of challenges and/or limited English language proficiency.
The program's objectives are to provide diverse, culturally responsive, and inclusive music sessions that engage children in the joy of singing, moving, and playing instruments, and that foster self- regulation, socialization, and pre-reading skills such as phonetics, sequencing, sound and letter recognition, rhythms and rhyming, clapping beats of music and words (syllables), tempo, dynamics, and patterns.
CURRENT POSITION: Music Teacher/Teaching Artist, PreK (begins December 2023)
Location: Webster Extension School, Everett, MA. Music sessions are delivered on-site at the school.
Term: This position offers exceptional flexibility, spanning from December to early June, encompassing 24 weeks, with the exclusion of holiday weeks during school hours. Teaching schedules can be tailored based on the availability of the teaching artist. Deliveries can be conducted in both morning and afternoon time slots, with adaptable dates and flexible delivery times. Moreover, a single teaching artist has the option to deliver up to 11, 30-minute music sessions per week on days that fit with the teaching artist's availability. If necessary, this position can be split between two teaching artists.
Job Responsibilities include:
● Deliver up to eleven, 30-minute sessions per week.
● Design, Prepare, and implement weekly lesson plans that are engaging and promote artistic and social-emotional EHTM learning goals.
● Participate in collaborative planning/debriefing/evaluation meetings with classroom teachers, EHTM teachers, and AFLMA's EHTM Staff
● Submit evaluation/reflection documents as requested
● Work with AFLMA Staff to ensure a comprehensive classroom experience for participating classrooms.
Pay Rate:
$45–$50/ 30-minute session (up to 11 sessions/ week - 24 weeks)
$50/planning meeting
$150/student presentation event
Travel: Dependent on distance

Musical Theatre Director: Grades 3-8
Job Description
AFLMA's Expanded Arts Access afterschool musical theatre project is hosted in Allston in partnership with the Gardner Pilot Academy (GPA), 30 Athol St, Allston, MA 02134. Classes and rehearsals will be held weekly in early January through mid June, 2023 and will primarily engage students in grades 3-8 with additional rehearsals scheduled at the beginning of the program to develop a sense of community, and dress rehearsal and performances in mid-June. All AFLMA teaching artists work closely with the Director of Arts Education to create a comprehensive classroom experience for students.
We are seeking an experienced youth theater director whose curriculum will engage students in a collaborative musical theater project in partnership with the production assistant/stage craft teaching artist. The project will culminate in public community performances. We are seeking a theater teaching artist with experience/interest in musical theatre to lead theatre games, culturally responsive playmaking activities, and stage direction of a musical theatre project with rehearsals approximately once a week, Jan-June afterschool from 2:30-4pm, with weekday evening dress rehearsal and community performances in mid-June.
Job Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Production Assistant/stage craft teaching artist to determine culturally responsive repertoire and approaches
- Supervise teaching assistant(s)
- Prepare and lead weekly lessons/rehearsals, ensure timely and engaging instruction
- Participate in planning/debriefing/evaluation meetings, collectively collaborating with teaching artists, GPA staff, and AFLMA staff.
- Prepare and lead students for dress rehearsal and performances.
- Support with tech rehearsal as needed.
- Submit lesson plans, evaluation/reflection documents as requested.
Compensation
This position is part-time, with pay rate determined by experience and the number and type of deliveries provided in the assigned residency as listed in the Job Responsibilities above.
Pay Rate:
Theatre Sessions: $100-$150/Class - depending on experience
Planning meetings: $50/meeting
