Comedic Expressions: Meme & GIF Storytelling
Comedic Expressions: Meme & GIF Storytelling meets students directly in the visual language they already use every day. Through the modern shorthand of texting, curated memes, GIFs, emojis, and short video clips, students learn to translate complex feelings, personal journeys, and the toughest parts of navigating school and social life into creative narratives.
A central element of the program is satire—teaching students how to use irony, humor, and comedic exaggeration to question everyday norms, challenge unspoken rules, and critique social expectations they might otherwise feel powerless to address. By using familiar digital culture as an emotional and analytical bridge, students find an accessible entry point to talk about real-life situations, academic pressures, and personal growth that can often feel too difficult or overwhelming to put into traditional words.
Working with tools like Canva or Google Slides, participants build dynamic visual slide decks that structure their perspectives through sharp wit, vulnerability, and relatability. Every workshop and residency culminates in an interactive slide-deck performance—giving students the stage to present their visual stories in a dynamic, TED Talk-style showcase that transforms everyday digital communication into confident public speaking, insightful satire, and authentic self-expression.
