Public Comments Sought for State Arts Standards Revision

May 6, 2019

Public comments are now being solicited by the The Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) on their 2019 Curriculum Framework for Arts - their first major revision since 1999.

We are delighted that this draft of the Framework, echoing the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), includes strong language about the importance of the arts to a well-rounded education.

Included in this document are: Guiding Principles on the design, evaluation and implementation of arts curriculum and instruction; Standards for Artistic Practice, which describe skills students acquire through arts learning; and Content Standards, which describes what students should know and be able to do in each artistic discipline by grade level.
